Who's to blame?

Editor,

Article 1. Section 8: Describes what Congress can do. What this means is a large part of the blame for our present state of affairs can be attributed to Congress with the approval of the President and not the other way around.

Congress creates legislation and the funding for it then send it to the President for his approval or veto so they are both responsible for any goodor bad outcome from that legislation.

When we the people elect people to both local and federal offices we expect they will work to resolve problems affecting everyone. In the case of federal officials, it will be national problems not local.

However, it is now obvious those elected have found it much easier to just maintain the status quo and do only enough to stay in office.

If anyone doubts my assumption, just look at the current NATIONAL DEBT. This is not something new that just happened over night and not the fault of just one political party. That much debt has been building to the amount it is now over several years and different administrations.

Politicians now and in the past found they would not be held to account for what they do or don’t do while in office, THEY WILL STILL GET THEIR PENSIONS.

Many “career” politicians have found they can remain on the federal payroll “DOLE” if they can get some federal money “PROJECT” for their state occasionally.

I can’t paint every elected official with the same brush because some do try to do the job they were elected to do. It’s just that after a few years they become jaded with the hypocrisy they find and succumb to either temptation or leave.

I believe any project or program not of national importance should only be financed by the states involved and if anything to be overseen by, the federal governments to insure all agreements are adhered to.

The federal budget was never meant to fund every obscure question someone could come up with or some make work project some politician thought their state needed.

I don’t have a solution for this problem but I can only hope that at the next election we have candidates of a higher caliber.
