June Erb, 78, of Oshkosh and Chappell, passed away Monday morning, Dec. 24, 2012, at the Miller Memorial Care Center in Chappell.

Funeral Services have taken place at the Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh with Pastor Ezekiel Koech officiating. Cremation followed the services and private family burial of the ashes will take place at the Oshkosh City Cemetery at a later date.

A memorial has been established in June’s name to the Miller Memorial Care Center or Sidney Regional Medical Center Hospice.

Estella June Erb was born on June 21, 1934 in Big Springs to Chester and Icie (Bramblett) Dillon. June lived most of her young life east of Oshkosh with her parents and brother, Joe.

She attended high school for two years in Oshkosh and finished her last two years of high school at Normal School in Curtis, Neb.With her credits from Curtis and three months of teachers college at Scottsbluff, she received a teaching certificate.

She taught her first year at Lisco School when she was only 17 years old. During this time she met Bob Erb and they eloped. They were married in Gering on May 29, 1952, both lying about their ages.

For the next 3 years, June and Bob worked as laborers on several farms and ranches in the Oshkosh/Lisco areas. June continued to teach at rural schools while taking some teaching classes from Chadron and Scottsbluff. She quit teaching when they started their family. They also lived in Sidney for a time when Bob worked in the oilfield for R.D. Mills.

During this time three sons were born, Charles Robert born in Oshkosh, Jimmie Joe born in Scottsbluff and Roland D. born in Sidney.

When Charles started high school in Oshkosh the family moved into town. June managed the Morris Hotel which was also the family residence. Once they moved to a house in Oshkosh, June began working at the hospital, first in the laundry and later in the kitchen.

She also moonlighted as a waitress at the Johnson Cafe and the S&S cafe. June loved to waitress and continued to do that off and on the rest of her life.

The next adventure was a job as a jailer/dispatcher for the Garden County Sheriff Department. Again, she had to take some classes and become certified in several areas for the job. She liked to tell about her new skills in self defense.

June resigned her job in the Sheriff’s Department and Bob joined her in Missouri to take care of her ailing mother until her death several years later.

June and Bob came back to the area and lived in Sidney and then Dalton and finally back to Oshkosh and lived there until Bob’s sudden passing in 1993.

June continued to live and work in Oshkosh and one Valentine’s Day an old acquaintance, Don Hendrickson, came to call. They enjoyed spending time together and doing some traveling. Sadly, Don became ill and June cared for him until his death. After his passing June again lived in Sidney, waitressing at Perkins.When her legs could no longer do the waitressing she moved to Ogallala and made several good friends including Nancy and Glenda. They enjoyed garage sale shopping every weekend and she filled her apartment with pretty things she loved.

June’s health required her to move into Miller Memorial Care Center in 2012 under the excellent care of kind staff and volunteers.

June especially loved her grandchildren and reveled in their accomplishments and her great- grandchildren.

June is survived by three sons, Charles and wife, Dawn Erb of Lodgepole, Jimmie and wife, Cindy Erb of Oshkosh, and Roland and wife, Brenda Erb of Gothenburg; seven grandchildren, four granddaughters, Brandy and husband, Troy Isenbart of Chappell, JaVay and husband, Ryan Hurt of Springfield, Virginia, Dusk Erb and fiancé, Kurt Westerbuhr of Kearney, Jenna Erb of Gothenburg, step-granddaughter, Nicole and husband, Seth Godbey of Brule, two grandsons, Jarod Erb of Thornton, Colo., and Nathan Erb of Oshkosh; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Joe Dillon of Buffalo, Mo .; brother-in-law, Art and wife, Marilyn Erb of Oshkosh; good friends, Nancy Jeffrey of Ogallala and Norma Dilley of Oshkosh; and a host of many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1993; parents; sister-in-law, Evelyn Dillon; friend, Don Hendrickson; and eight of Robert’s siblings.
