Gerald W Schulz, 72, of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Yuma, Ariz., went to be with the Lord on Dec. 26, in Yuma, surrounded by his family.

He was born April 20, 1940, in Sidney to W.W. Schulz and Laura Schulz.

Gerald graduated from Sidney High in 1958 and played football at Northeastern Jr. College in Sterling, Colo.

He married Brenda Wickstrom on Feb. 21, 1959. In 1956, while still in school he hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad. He worked as a clerk in the Sidney Depot. They then moved to North Platte where he worked in the freight house. In 1960 he joined the Army and was a MP stationed at Killen Base in Texas. In 1963 he moved back to North Platte and became a night watchman until he was sent to Laramie where he was a Special Agent for the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1976 he moved from Laramie to Cheyenne where he finished his 43 year career as a conductor.

After his retirement in 1998, Gerald and Brenda lived out their dream of being able to travel and see the world.

He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Wickstrom Schulz, of 54 years; a son, Randy Schulz (Kelly); a granddaughter, Sammantha Schulz; two grandsons, Mike Schulz and Robert Sexton; a granddaughter, Christina Morris (Josh); a great-grandson, Reilly; and a great granddaughter, Nova Morris, all of Cheyenne; his sisters, Linda (Kent) Holloway of Minden, Judy (John) Rowley of Boron, Calif.; a brother, Judd (Kristy) Stacy of Bakersfield, Calif.; his mother-in-law, Ione Cucarola of Cheyenne; a brother-in-law, Terry (Mary Jo) Wickstrom of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shannon Blackwell; his parents; and his sisters, Wilma Levy, Lucille Stacy, and Ada Ammerman.

Gerald loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, his friends, and picnics in the mountains.

Memorial services will be Thursday, 1 p.m., at Cheyenne Hills Church with Dr. Galen Huck officiating.

Friends who wish may contribute to Davis Hospice or charity of their choice.
