Art was born on March 29, 1920, in Sidney to Peter John and Kathryn (Bolke) Lenzen. He grew up in the Sidney area farming with his father. He served his country as a combat engineer in the U.S. Army during World War II serving from 1941 to 1945, in Alaska, Australia, and various islands in Asia. After his discharge, he returned to Nebraska and resumed farming with his father and brothers. On Aug. 22, 1953, he and Linda Hopkins were married in Dalton. After honeymooning in Niagara Falls, they moved into the new house Art built on the farm. They transitioned from the Packard convertible to the Chevy station wagon.

Art is survived by his loving wife Linda of 59 years; seven daughters and seven sons, Peter of Bloomington, Ind. (KyungHee: Meehan, Saehan), Judith of Manchester, Mo. (Dick: Edwina, Christine), Mary of London, England (Grant: Arthur, Frederick, Howard, Edward), Gerard of Hinckley, Minn. (Kelly: Tyler, Michael, Thomas, Isaac, Gemma, Matthias, Candace), John of Sidney, Francis of Sidney, Paul of Irving, Texas (Maria: Joseph, Andrea, Gianna, Phillip, Kaitlyn, Cecilia, Gregory, Mercia, Carina, Lillia), Monica of Plano, Ill. (Gabriel), Andrew of Sidney (Lydia: Sonia, Xina, Jacob, Anna, Benjamin), Teresa of Omaha (Jose’: Joe), Bernard of Sidney (Mary: Cordelia). Art is also survived by his sister Eva Thomason (Galen) and brother Jerome Lenzen.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Tom Lenzen, and sister-in-law Marian Lenzen.

Art was very active in St. Patrick’s church, including the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, and Legion of Mary, and leading the Rosary at the rest home. He served on the local Selective Service board for many years.

Dad’s pride and joy was his family and greatly enjoyed having a simple dinner with his visiting kids/grandkids. His faith was the center of his life and led family prayers until his last day.

Art was a humble man, close to his God and to the earth. He has gone home.
