Juanita G. Maddox, 94, of Sidney, passed away at Sidney Regional Medical Center Extended Care on Saturday, May 4, 2013.

No formal services are planned. Private family graveside services will be at Greenwood Cemetery.

Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Wednesday until 5 p.m. to sign Juanita’s register book and drop off condolences for the family. Juanita’s casket will be closed.

Memorial contributions may be made in Juanita’s name to Sidney High School for Scholarships.

Gehrig-Stitt Chapel and Cremation Service LLC is in charge of Juanita’s care and funeral arrangements.

Juanita Genave Maddox, the daughter of Eugene and Eula (Wells) Noble, was born on Nov. 5, 1918, at South Haven, Kan. She graduated from High School at Durango, Colo. On Nov. 16, 1938, Juanita was united in marriage to Layton Lee Maddox at Raton, N.M. They lived in Bremerton, Wash., during World War II and settled in Sidney in 1947 where they started Maddox Motor Company with Layton’s father O.L. and his brothers Dick and Gaylord. Juanita served as the bookkeeper until they retired in the mid-1980s and sold the business to their son, Bill.

Juanita enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards and spending time with her family.

Survivors include one son, Bill Maddox and wife Peg of Sidney; one daughter, Beverly Campbell of Fort Collins, Colo .; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Layton in January of 2012; four brothers, Alvin, Clinton, Bill and Clifton; and two sisters, Lizzie Poage and Melvina Folsom.
