Food drive to help fill pantry

In Honor of Martin Luther Day of Service, the Foster Grandparent Program will be sponsoring a Food Drive to help the Community Action Partnership of Western Nebraska Pantry. The pantry is low due to an increase in need for food from families over the holidays.  Non-perishable food items are needed to restock the pantry shelves.

The Day of Service is supported by the Corporation for National and Community Services which funds the Foster Grandparent Program.  The MLK Day of Service is an annual event which has also been observed locally for years through various acts of service to assist the local communities in which Foster Grandparents work.  The program will host the food drive from January 6th thru January 17th.  Donation boxes are located at Fresh Foods in Gering; and Main Street Market, Safeway and Wal-Mart in Scottsbluff.  A CAPWN truck will be in the Wal-Mart parking lot on January 17th for community members to donate non- perishable items to complete the food drive. Please support the Foster Grandparents in their effort to help the community by building up the food pantry in the coming days.

The Foster Grandparent Program is funded in part by United Way of Western Nebraska as well as the Corporation, as mentioned above.  Foster Grandparents are income-eligible seniors over the age of 55 who work on a one-to-one basis in schools, Head Start Centers, and day cares in the surrounding area.  Volunteers encourage children to learn academic, social and emotional skills that will help them to become productive citizens for their futures, as well as ours.
