Wiedeburg installed as Master Councilor of local DeMolay chapter

Sidney High School senior Jachob Wiedeburg was recently installed as Master Councilor of the Fort Sidney Chapter of DeMolay. Tyler Miller was installed as Senior Councilor and Ryan Birner as Junior Councilor.

DeMolay International is an organization dedicated to preparing young men to lead successful, happy and productive lives. Basing its approach on timeless principles and practical, hands-on experience, DeMolay opens doors for men ages 12 to 21 by developing the civic awareness, personal responsibility and leadership skills needed in society today. DeMolay has more than 1,000 chapters worldwide.

Some events that the local chapter have been involved with include:

• In April, the Fort Sidney Chapter of DeMolay – for the seventh year in a row – won the All-Sports Trophy at the Spring roundup held in Kearney.

• At the Annual Conclave held in July in Lincoln, the chapter for the third year in a row, won the Ritual Competition for the third year in a row, with Wiedeburg placing first in the Master Councilor competition, Thomas Kokjer placing first in the Flower Talk (a tribute to mothers of the chapter) and Cade Lewis placed first in Chaplain and Fifth Preceptor.

• Members of the chapter, along with sponsors, traveled to Valentine for a tubing excursion on the Niobrara River in August.

• The chapter also assisted with the Night of Hope Cancer Walk in August under the leadership of Wiedeburg and sponsored the annual Celebrity Dunking Booth at the Cheyenne County Fair.

• In October, the chapter traveled to Fort Collins for the Colorado State-Wyoming football game with the activities being coordinated by Cory Bergstrom. It also took part in a bowling tournament with 25 members participating.

Upcoming activities include sponsoring a family in the "Adopt A Santa" program, manning the Sidney Table of Grace Food Pantry, bell ringing for the Salvation army, a holiday card party and the annual Super Bowl sandwich sale.
