Verna J. Sayler

1933 to 2015

 

Verna J. Sayler, 81 of Sidney, passed away Thursday morning, July 23, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Sidney.

Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 31, in the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Tom Hyde officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Thursday to sign Verna's register book and drop off condolences for the family.

Memorial contributions may be made in Verna's name to the Make A Wish Foundation or any local animal rescue cause.

Gehrig-Stitt Chapel and Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Verna's care and funeral arrangements.

Verna Jane Sayler, the daughter of Rudolph and Emelia (Pfeiffer) Kurle, was born on December 22, 1933 at Eureka, S.D. On July 27, 1952 she was united in marriage to Melvin Sayler at Eureka, they lived in Mobridge, S.D. until 1974, and then moved to Sidney. Verna was employed by Borth's Clothing store in Mobridge for many years. She enjoyed being part of a sorority, bowling, garage sales, auctions and loved her kids sporting events. Verna loved her dogs,' Mitzi' and later her pug 'Sugar'. Verna cooked good German dishes, as well as being fluent in German, Verna was a good homemaker, her home was always spotless. She lived a life of service which included the Ladies Chamber for twenty-two years and was active with the United Methodist Women. She was employed at Ann's Card and Party Shop and as office clerk at the hospital.


Survivors include her children: Debra Goranson of Three Forks, Mont., Steve Sayler and wife Brenda of Boone, IA, Cherie Heimbegner and husband Steve of Greeley, David Sayler and wife Cindy of Kearney, Jeff Sayler of Sidney and Troy Sayler and wife Tracey are stationed with the Marines in Stuttgart, Germany; (13) grandchildren and numerous extended family members and friends.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Mel, (2) brothers: Erwin and Eugene Kurle, (1) sister: Alice Weller and a beloved granddaughter: Angelee Goranson.
