Annual scouting canoe derby on tap for weekend

 


The 42nd annual Ed Dulaney Canoe Derby will be held Sept. 11-13 at the Bridgeport State Recreation Area.

Founded in 1974by the late Ed Dulaney, a scoutmaster from Gering, the derby is one of the longest running scouting events of its kind in the nation. The derby involves Boy Scouts, Webelos and Cub Scouts from Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado.

John Zerck, a scoutmaster from Alliance, Neb., will serve as chairman of the derby and will be assisted by Rick Ross of Gering.
