Sidney golfers finish in top ten at state

When Sidney's high school golf team began the season, there were hopes for a good season.

But in the beginning coach Chuck Christinsen didn't expect quite such a strong finish.

"If you would have told me we would be in the top 10 at state I would have been extatic," Christiansen said following the Raiders' trip to state.

But that's exactly where Sidney finished and Christiansen and team members alike feel they could have done even better.

Christiansen said Sidneys' play was marred with errors, and "everybody's game from 120 yards in was not good."

Three putts and chunk shots made the days tough for Sidney as they battled their way to 10th place with a team total of 664.

Nathan Dvorak made it to the medal stand with a final individual score of 156, ending in a four-way tie for 14th.

Christiansen said the players recogize they could have played better, but the fact they qualified for state in scored in the top 10 gave them hope for next year.

"The three returning underslassmen know they've got work to do," Christiansen said, "but the've already set their goals to get back (to state) next year."

Christiansen said the Sidney showing refelcts the hard work they put in all spring, and that he couldn't be more proud of his team.

He points out the quality of the students he had in the leadership of Ryan Birner and Brady Radcliffe, who both qualified for state competitions in three sports.

"We're giong to miss them, but the future looks bright with the three we have coming back," Christiansen said.
