In all, three divisions of play were held, with Alliance capturing the 12-and-under crown, and Yuma, Colo. winning the 14-and-under triangular competition.

Wood bats were used by all players during the benefit tournament, with part of the proceeds going toward the Sidney Regional Medical Center cancer program. Fifteen teams from the Panhandle and northeast Colorado played 25 games.

In the 14-and-under division, Sidney squared off against two Colorado teams, Yuma and Sterling, in a six-game triangular with play on Saturday only.

Sidney opened the tournament against Sterling, losing 11-0. The squad fared better against Yuma in the final game, posting a 12-6 loss to the eventual champion.

On its way to the title, Yuma clipped Sterling 3-2 in its opener to post a 2-0 record. Sterling's split earned second place.

There were six teams in each of the younger divisions, allowing for pool play on Saturday to set up Sunday's bracket play.

Sidney's championship 10-and-under team opened tournament play with a 10-4 win over Brush (Colo.) Gold, then drew a second Bruch entry, the Maroon squad, in its second game. Sidney defeated Bruch Maroon 10-0 to post 20 points and a 2-0 record, earning the top seed for bracket play.

On Sunday, Sidney defeated fourth-seeded Yuma 9-2, then met Brush Maroon again in the championship game, winning 10-0.

Sidney's 12-and-under team went 1-1 in pool play, losing to Alliance 10-0 in the tournament opener, then recovered for a 10-0 win over Sandhills out of the northern Panhandle. Brush tripped Sidney up in the opening round of bracket play 10-7.

Eventual 12-and-under winner Alliance earned the number one seed with a 2-0 pool play mark. Alliance downed Brush 11-5, then met number three seed Chadron. Alliance captured its title with a 13-1 win.
