Marjorie Fern Sahs was born October 24, 1922 to William and Anna (Volkert) Sahs in Sidney, Nebraska at the Jacob Volkert home. Her family included her twin sister Elaine and Delno and Mildred, a fraternal set of twins born 16 months later. Marjorie had fond memories of growing up with her siblings.

As a child she lived 16 miles northwest of Sidney in the Bunker Hill precinct. In 1935 her family moved to the Volkert homestead, six miles west of Dalton where her father could have pasture land to raise Hereford cattle in conjunction with the wheat crop. Marjorie attended country school before graduating from Dalton High School with the class of 1940. The following year she took teaching courses at Chadron State College. She then taught for two years in rural schools south of Potter, Nebraska where she met Kermit Nelson. Their courtship was prolonged; because of World War II and Kermit's time spent in the Army Air Corp. During war years Marjorie taught school, with her sister Mildred, at Meadow Lawn in Dalton, writing letters to her fiancé every day.

On May 19, 1947 Marjorie and Kermit were united in marriage at the Dalton Trinity Lutheran Church. They made their home south of Potter farming and raising cattle near Kermit's family. In 1950 they moved west of Dalton to the Volkert homestead when Marjorie's father retired from farming. They continued to work together farming and ranching while raising their two children; Gwen and Gene. They designed and built a new farm home in 1961. In 1955 and 1974 tornadoes caused much destruction on the farmstead and with much help from wonderful neighbors and hard work they got the farm cleaned up and rebuilt each time. They retired in 1987, moving into a home in Dalton they designed and built.

Marjorie was a lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church/United Church of the Plains in Dalton. She loved her church work and held various offices in many church groups and committees over the years.

She also enjoyed West Dalton Club, playing cards, family get-togethers, square dancing with Kermit for 32 years and traveling in the US and abroad. Some of her favorite times were had when her twin sister Elaine joined Marjorie and Kermit to travel in their camper across the US. Marjorie was a wonderful cook. Her potato salad, lasagna and coconut cream pie will be greatly missed.

Marjorie was a devoted and loving wife for 68 years, a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend.

Survivors include her daughter Gwen and husband Terry Johnson of Ogallala, NE; son Gene and wife Ellen Nelson of Dalton, NE; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Elaine and Mildred and one brother The Rev. Delno Sahs and her husband in June of 2015.

Holechek Funeral Home and Cremations of Sidney is serving the Nelson family.
