Janice Elaine (Treinen) Beeken - Obituary

Janice Elaine (Treinen) Beeken, 70, sadly lost her battle with cancer Aug. 25. Her husband, Les, sat by her side as the sun rose and she went to be with the Lord.

She was born on May 31, 1948 to Dorothy (Fehringer) and John N. Treinen. She grew up on the family farm south of Sidney and attended Lorenzo School and St. Patrick’s High School, graduating in 1966. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Creighton University, a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and a Ph.D. in education from the University of Wyoming.

Janice was an accomplished professor in nursing and taught at Laramie County Community College, the University of Wyoming and Walden University, where she was employed at the time of her death. She also served as head of patient care for the V.A. Medical Center in Cheyenne. She was a recognized member of the Wyoming Nursing Association and American Nurses Association, serving as district president and district treasurer. She was a proud member of the Alpha Sigma Phi Honorary Society of Creighton University as well as Sigma Theta Tau Nurses Honorary Society. She also enjoyed being a part of the Holy Trinity Parish Council, decorating committee and lector group.

She loved spending the day with her family at Coors Field, or any baseball field, watching her favorite team, the Rockies.

She was most proud of her seven beautiful grandchildren: Joseph Guggisberg, 18, who has just begun his college education at Xavier University; Leslie Guggisberg, 16; Tayler Beeken, 13; Jacob Guggisberg, 12; Thomas Guggisberg, 11; Elliott Beeken, 8; and Jason Beeken, 5. She also loved and will be missed by her three children, Stephanie, Jeremiah and Jonah.

Janice is survived by her mother Dorothy Treinen of Sidney, her brother Steve (Tish) Treinen, and sisters Terri (Jack) Wolff, Eileen (Dennis) King, and Deb Schauermann.

She was preceeded in death by her paternal grandparents, Mary and John Treinen, her maternal grandparents, Clara and John Fehringer, her father, youngest sister Beth Treinen Saeman, and niece Courteney Saeman.

The family invites you to join them at noon Saturday for Mass at Jan and Les’ home at 8255 Shapra Road, outside of Cheyenne, followed by a celebration of her life at 1 p.m.
