Kyra's Kisses Fundraiser May 4

A child’s pain and suffering are quick ways to disrupt innocence. When the malady needs treated at a hospital, the child needs something distracting, familiar to keep him or her from focusing on the hurt.

At the young age of 2, Kyra Eads inspired a program that continues fives years later.

At the time when most children are known for the “terrible twos” or exploring their world randomly, Kyra was undergoing cancer treatments in Denver. The experience included receiving toys after her radiation and chemotherapy treatments.

The impact of those toys on Kyra’s cancer treatments was so positive her mom Kaila Kuhns created Kyra’s Kisses, a program designed to provide toys and gifts for hospitals to distribute to children in treatment. Kyra’s Kisses first delivery of toys went to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. The program expanded to Sidney Regional Medical Center.

Kyra later died of an inoperable brain tumor. Kuhns carried the mission of providing toys for children in treatment.

On May 4, the Kyra’s Kisses Neighborhood Show and Shine will take place at the Sidney First United Methodist Church at 2622 11th Ave. The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The show is open to cars, trucks, motorcycles and bicycles. A Nacho Bar will be available for a free will donation.

All donations will benefit Kyra’s Kisses.
