Sidney Cross Country Competes at Gering, Cozad

On Friday, Sidney’s Cross Country team sent a group of runners to compete at the Gering Invitational, and earned a fourth place finish for the boy’s team with 59 points, and a fourth place finish for the girl’s squad with 68 points. In the boy’s division, Alliance’s Alec Garcia placed first, followed by Torrington’s Michael Sandusky and Scottsbluff’s Kennedy Ronne to round out the top three. Sidney’s top finisher was junior Damien Beatson with a 15th place finish.

On the girl’s side, Scottsbluff’s Brooke Holzworth took top honors, followed by Tukker Romey and Madison Seiler of Gering. Sidney freshman Rheo Dykstra was the Lady Raiders top finisher at 15th place.

On Saturday, the team traveled to the Cozad Invite and again the boy’s team placed fourth while the girls ended with an eight place finish. For the boys, North Platte’s Evan Caudy and Joel Bradley finished first and second, while Sidney’s Daniel Bashtovoi finished third. Cameron Brauer was the only other top 20 finsiher for Sidney with a 12th place showing. For the team results, Northwest took top honors while North Platte and Hastings rounded out the top three.

For the girls, Chelsey Espinosa of Hasting took top honors, follwed by Miah Hoppens of Ogallala and Zarah Blaesi of North Platte. Sidney sophomore Lydia Peters was the only Lady Raider to finish in the top 20 with a 16th place finish.

After Week 1 (August 29th – September 7th) Coaches Poll, the Sidney boys team is ranked number 1 in Class C with 122 total points.
