Community Invited to Thanksgiving Feast

Not everyone has a Thanksgiving dinner to prepare. Some people in the area no longer have a family to share dinner. Others are struggling with having food on a typical dinner table, let alone a holiday feast. Cheyenne County has one more option Thursday to celebrate Thanksgiving.

The Journey Through Our Heritage (JTOH) students of Sidney High School, along with Sidney Regional Medical Center, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the First United Methodist Church, will be hosting a community Thanksgiving Dinner.

Those who attend are asked to bring a side dish to share. Everyone is welcome even if they do not bring a dish.

JTOH is a multicultural educational program sponsored by The Department of Chicano/Chicana Studies and Department of Africana Studies of Metropolitan State University in Denver. Jeremee Jones, Spanish 1 and 2 teacher at Sidney High School, said the JTOH theme this year is "Creating Change through Service Learning and Community Engagement."

"Each school that participates was to choose a community service project and our group chose to host a Community Thanksgiving dinner," Jones said.

The Community Thanksgiving Dinner in Sidney is planned for 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, at the Lodgepole Valley Youth Camp.

Sidney Regional Medical Center is providing turkeys and the churches are providing hams and support for the meal. Students raised more than $170 from the student body in addition to food donations.
