School Board Approves Resignations

The Cheyenne School District No. 1 Board of Education approved four resignations and retirements.

High School math teacher Carissa Reimers submitted her resignation, effective May 22, 2020.

“After careful consideration, I have decide to pursue other avenues of life,” she said in her resignation letter.

She added that she enjoyed her time as part of the Sidney Public Schools family, and is glad to have had the chance to know her students.

Rebecca Haddix is retiring at the end of the school year.

“After 43 years of writing IEPs (Individual Education Plans), it is time to pursue other interests. Teaching in Sidney has been a rewarding experience. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with excellent teachers and administrators,” she said in her letter.

Rita Leininger also submitted her resignation.

“To quote Rick Meyer quoting The Doors: 'The time to hesitate is through.' I will be retiring at the end of the 2019-2020 school year. Thank you for the opportunities to grow as an educator and as a person. It is now time for me to figure out what I want to be when I grow up (or old as the case may be),” she said in her resignation.

Vicki Brauer submitted her letter of retirement as well.

“Thank you so much for the opportunity to work with the students in our Sidney community. I feel very blessed for the wonderful experience,” she said in her resignation.

The board also received the District's 2018-2019 audit report. Julie Peetz of Rauner and Associates said the audit was given an unmodified (clean) opinion. She said the year-end assets were down about $576,000, a result in lower property valuation and a decrease in State aid.

She also discussed the District's reserve balance. Peetz said the recommended practice is three months of reserve. At the time of the audit, the District had 1.87 months of reserve in the General Fund, 2.86 months reserve from all funds an 4.48 months funds including funds held by the county.

The board also reviewed the 2020-21 Comprehensive Agreement, School Report Card and school calendar. The Board also approved selling District property at 1025 Fifth Ave. for $10,500, with closing expected Friday, Dec. 13.
