December SPNRD Meeting

South Platte NRD September 2019 Board of Directors Meeting

On Tuesday, Dec. 10, the South Platte Natural Resources District (SPNRD) Board of Directors (Board) held their monthly meeting at 5 p.m. at the South Platte NRD Conference Room (551 Parkland Drive, Sidney).

The end of 2019 also means the annual Fiscal Year Audit Report. Rauner & Associates, P.C. performed the annual audit for the 2019 Fiscal Year. No major findings were reported, and the books and records were in good condition.

Chris Kaiser, SPNRD Natural Resources Coordinator, gave the 2019 Final Chemigation Report for the District. Overall most of the Chemigation systems in the SPNRD were well maintained and managed. The SPRND received 438 chemigation permit applications during 2019. Of those applications, 402 were renewal request and 36 were new applications. All 36 new applications were reviewed, inspected and approved.

Each year the District’s Chemigation Rules and Regulations requires that a number of renewal applications be subject to random and periodic inspections, these inspections assist with ensuring that chemigation systems and chemical applications are working properly and safely. Chemigation provides a more uniform application of fertilizer and other agricultural chemicals for the production of crops. Properly designed irritation/chemigation systems can ensure excellent distribution of a proper water-chemical mixture, which increases crop production and savings.

Shelly Sutherland, SPNRD Public Relations and Education Manager, briefed the Board on the November Conservation Awards Banquet. The 2019 Awards Banquet was well attended and supported throughout the community. In addition to recognizing the 2019 Award Winners, multiple businesses and individuals outside of the SPRND staff and other government agencies donated funds, gifts for the award winners, decorations and time towards the Conservation Awards. The Conservation Awards continue to be an asset to the District, it’s residents, and the businesses it serves.

Galen Wittrock, SPNRD Assistant Manager, covered information regarding different cost-share programs that the SNPRD partners with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Each year the Board reviews the current cost-share rates offered to District Residents and when necessary will adjust them to meet District needs.
