Robert James Young - Obituary

Robert James Young, 94, of Greeley, CO, passed away on January 13, 2020 at the Life Care Center in Greeley, CO. Services were held at Adamson Life Celebration Home in Greeley on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 1:30 pm, with cookie reception. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 3:30 pm.

Robert was born on April 17, 1925 in Gates, NE to Reita and Harold Young. He spent most of his childhood in the Gates, Callaway, and Broken Bow area of Nebraska. After moving to Sidney, NE to work on the Sioux Army Depot, he met and married Lorita McNurlin on October 26, 1952.

They had five children; Sharon (Robert) Rojas of Westminster, CO; Jim (Vicki) Young of Greeley; Leslie (Roy) Birkholz of Aurora; Regina (Dave) Lashley of Gering, NE; and Teresa Young of Columbia, GA.

Robert worked at a variety of jobs in the Sidney, Nebraska area as a true entrepreneur. He owned and managed the Derby Gas Station Mini Mart in the 1960's, and later a full service Texaco Gas Station. In 1976 he worked at Highway Aircraft engineering and building the rocket car with a Renault engine, which got 55 mpg and was used as an Indy 500 pace car. Robert attained his small engine student pilot's license and enjoyed flying.

He moved to Greeley, CO in 2003, where he lived in retirement until health issues made it necessary for him to enter the Life Care Center of Greeley. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, John Beshaler, two brothers, Leroy and Keith, and his wife Lorita. He is survived by all his children, 8 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Colorado.

Memorial service at 2:00pm, Saturday, January 18, 2020, at Adamson Life Celebration Home, Greeley, followed by cookie reception 2:45, and graveside at Sunset Memorial Gardens 3:30pm.
