SPNRD July Board of Directors Meeting

On Tuesday, July 14, the South Platte Natural Resources District (SPNRD) Board of Directors (Board) hosted their monthly meeting at 5 p.m. at the South Platte NRD Conference Room (551 Parkland Drive, Sidney NE).

Thad Kuntz, P.G., Principal Hydrogeologist with Adaptive Resources, Inc., briefed the Board on the Western Water Use Management Modeling (WWUMM) for the SPNRD. Kuntz covered details on two parts of the Modeling, the Aquifer Life Analysis, and the Modflow 2000 to Modflow 6 Ground Water Model Conversion Review.

The WWUMM is an application/website to display information about the District’s technical activities to the public through interactive maps and information. The Board and District landowners/residents rely on this information to make informed decisions on water consumption today, to save water for the future. This technology ensures the District is basing water usage guidelines, to include agricultural and industrial uses, on historical data in order to preserve our ability to manage our water use in the future. This Modeling helps determine the effects of allocations, life of the aquifers, and the general condition of local aquifers. The Aquifer Life Maps provide results from ground water model analyses that the District has completed to assist in determining their aquifer management strategies.
