Pheasants Forever Chapter Event March 5

In 1982, Pheasants Forever was formed. It came about from the frustration of hunters and conservationists watching wildlife habitat losses taking place.

Nebraska's first Pheasant's Forever chapter was established in 1986. In 1990, Cheyenne County was added to the list of chapters in Nebraska as High Plains Chapter No. 278.

On March 5, the High Plains Chapter No. 278 will celebrate 31 years with its annual banquet at the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds.

The event starts at 5:30 p.m. with happy hour. Dinner starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $50 for membership and dinner, $15 for spouse dinner (with spouse membership), student 16-25 membership and dinner is $30 and Ringneck membership and dinner is $15. The event will also include live and silent auctions, games and raffles, as well as chances to win guns. Tickets are available online only at http://www.highplainspf278.org.

The High Plains Chapter stays busy throughout the year, hosting events and involved with conservation programs.

“Our Youth Pollinator Project is held with the 3rd & 4th graders at Leyton School. With the help of Becky and Jourdan this would not be possible. They are putting in Building Habitat into their curriculum and showing the kids how important it is. Receiving a Milkweed kit from Nationals to try and grow their own Milkweed and watch the progress,” said

We host our annual Youth Pheasant Hunt in the fall and get kids out in the outdoors for a day of fun. We host up to 20 boys and girls ages 12-15 who have passed their hunter safety. We offer safety, biology and habitat classes, they get to reload shells and shoot some trap before taking them out in the field for a chance to harvest a pheasant or two. For some of these youth it is their first time harvesting a pheasant. We are trying to encourage them to get outdoors and enjoy. We offer this hunt with no cost to the youth. We also offer a chance at winning a Youth Lifetime Hunting permit and several other prizes.
