On Tuesday, March 9, 2021 the South Platte Natural Resources District (SPNRD) Board of Directors (Board) hosted its monthly meeting at 5:00 p.m. in the South Platte NRD Conference Room (551 Parkland Drive, Sidney NE). Rod Horn, General Manager for SPNRD reviewed the schedule for the public hearing that will be held for proposed amendments to the Districtwide Ground Water Management Area Rules and Regulations. The hearing will be held at the Country Inn and Suites in Sidney March 18, 2020. There will be an information meeting beginning at 5:00 p.m. and the hearing beginning at 6:30 p.m. or 30 minutes after the end of the information session, whichever is later. Written testimony will be accepted until March 26, 2020. The board will discuss and possibly vote on the proposed amendments at the April 13, 2021 board meeting. If the amendments are approved, the order will be public noticed for three consecutive weeks and will become effective on May 14, 2021.
Sydney Norris, the Public Relations and Education Manager with SPNRD reviewed information regarding the education programs and scholarships for the Adventure Camp about the Environment (ACE Camp) and Range Camp. It is uncertain if Range Camp will be occurring in 2021. Norris recommended board approval for $1,680 to go towards scholarships for the camps. The board approved the scholarship funds.
Jacque Riener from Southwest Environmental Engineering, LLC, gave an overview of the Clean Harbors facilities located south of Kimball. Riener reviewed the operations of the company as well as the soil and water samples that are taken surrounding the facility to ensure the safety of the people and communities within the area. Reiner is the consultant for the SPNRD and Clean Harbors Citizen’s Monitoring Committee. She prepares quarterly reports for the committee that are available to the public upon request.
