Raiders Bring Home Three State Championships

Sidney’s Red Raider Track and Field State Qualifiers traveled to Omaha for the NSAA Class B State Championships held in Omaha Burke Stadium on Friday and Saturday.

Senior Karly Sylvester capped off her season of dominating the throwing events by winning the Class B State Championships in both Shot Put and Discus. She won the Shot Put event with a throw of 41 feet, 10 and a half inches and the Discus with a throw of 138 feet, six inches. Sylvester has won every Shot Put and Discus competition she participated in this season.

Sophomore Jacob Dowse won the Class B State Championship in the High Jump, clearing six feet eight inches to take top honors.

Freshman Karysn Leeling capped her impressive freshman season by placing second in the High Jump, clearing five feet six inches. Leeling also placed 11th in the Long Jump with a distance of 16 feet one and three quarters inches. Freshman Chloe Ahrens also impressed, placing third in the 300 Meter Hurdles at 46.74 and fifth in the 100 Meter Hurdles at 15.48. Freshman Talissa Tanquary placed fourth in the 800 Meters at 2:19.6 and seventh in the 400 Meter Dash at 1:00. Senior Morgan Jaggers placed 14th in the 1600 Meters at 5:32.37 and 23rd in the 800 Meters at 2:32.08. Sophomore Rheagan Stanley placed 11th in the Pole Vault, clearing 9 feet. Senior Reagan Biesecker placed 16th in the Shot Put with a throw of 35 feet six inches, and sophomore Gabrielle Fortner placed 23rd in the Triple Jump with a distance of 32 feet six and one quarter inches. The girls 4x400 Meter Relay team of Ahrens, Fortner, Jaggers and Tanquary placed 10th with a time of 4:12.62.

For the boys, senior Connor Hartzler was unable to qualify for the final rounds in the 110 and 300 Meter Hurdles, junior Mitchell Deer and sophomore Jacob Dowse also failed to qualify for the 400 Meter finals, and juniors Daniel Bashtovoi placed seventh and Cameron Brauer placed ninth in the 1600 Meters. Junior Sawyer Dickman placed 15th in the High Jump clearing 6 feet, sophomore Cameron Leeling placed eight in the Long Jump with a distance of 21 feet two and one quarter inches, and the Boy’s 4x800 Meter Relay team of Deer, Brauer, Treyson Johnstone and Bashtovoi placed second with a time of 8:11.39.
