Lady Raiders Open With Win Against Sterling

Sidney's Lady Raider Volleyball team started their quest for another State Tournament appearance with a five-set win over the Sterling Lady Tigers in Sterling on Thursday, August 26.

Second year Head Coach Julie Smith has put together a strong lineup, even with the losses of standouts like Karly Sylvester and Logan Holly from graduation. The Lady Raiders have filled the holes of these losses with athletic and heavy hitting players that look to keep the program dominant, and they started off the 2021 season in good fashion by taking down a strong Sterling team on the road.

The match started with a tight first set, and both teams kept it close and traded leads until the Lady Tigers were able to pull away for a 25-to-16 first set victory. But Sidney responded, and dominated the second set with a convincing 25-to-9 tally.

They then took the third set 25-to-16 before Sterling was able to mount a comeback to tie the match at 2-2 with a 25-to-20 fourth set win. But in the final set, the Lady Raiders were able to hold of the Lady Tigers, and took the fifth set 15-to-12 for the 3-to-2 match victory.

Senior Alecca Campbell was outstanding on offense, with 22 kills to lead the team. Junior Rheagan Stanley had 3 three Ace Serves while senior Brynna Ross had 20 assists in the victory.

Sidney hosts Ogallala on Thursday at Sidney High School.
