Cheryl L. Nelson

Cheryl L. Nelson, age 73 of Sidney, NE passed away Sunday morning, September 5, 2021 at the Sidney Regional Medical Center.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sidney, NE with Pastor Ted Bourret officiating. Cremation has been held. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Potter Cemetery. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Event Center on Friday, September 10th from 1-6:00 P.M., with family present from 4-6. Memorial contributions may be made in Cheryl’s name to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the Night of Hope. Services will be recorded and later downloaded to Cheryl’s Book of Memories. Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Cheryl’s care and funeral arrangements.

Cheryl Louise Nelson, the daughter of Louis A. and Stella (Stein) Wittrock, was born on October 20, 1947 in Sidney. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian Faith. On June 12, 1966 Cheryl was united in marriage to Kae E. Nelson in Sidney. To this union two sons were born, Josh and Justin. Cheryl was later blessed with a granddaughter and four great-grandchildren.

Cheryl attended St. Paul’s Christian School through the eighth grade and graduated from Sidney High School. Following graduation from Sidney Business School, Cheryl followed Kae’s Air Force transfers, first to Denver, CO and later to Tucson, AZ where she held several secretarial positions before relocating to Scottsbluff, NE where she worked for National Drinks, Inc. as an inventory clerk. Upon moving back to Sidney, Cheryl continued to raise her sons while starting a career in data entry at Cabela’s, retiring after 28 years. Cheryl especially loved her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.

Cheryl leaves behind her husband: Kae; sons: Josh of Potter and Justin of St. Peters, MO; granddaughter: Jenn and husband Cordell Relerford of Potter; great-grandchildren: Elliott, Aria, Jude and Makai Relerford; brother: Lynn Wittrock and special friend Donna Phillips of Peyton, CO; sisters: Melba Rader and husband Ray of Ft. Morgan, CO, Doris Riewe and husband Wes of Longmont, CO, Shirley Neel and husband Eddie of 4th and Plum, Arlyce Hoschouer and husband Richard of Sidney; sisters-in-law: Carol Wittrock of Douglas, WY, Myra Noteboom and husband Ken of Grove, OK and Lea Wiemers and special friend Mark Brooks of Potter, NE. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents: Louis and Stella Wittrock, brothers: Ted, Roy and Bryce Wittrock, twin infant sisters: Mona and Donna Wittrock, her parents-in-law: Nig and Dorothy Nelson, sister-in-law: Carol Lee Wittrock and brother-in-law: Michael Wiemers.
