Michael Jean Waltman was the youngest of two children and was born September 27, 1959, in Oshkosh, NE to Dale and June Waltman. Mike grew up in Oshkosh and attended Garden County schools, where he later graduated from Garden County High School in 1978.

After graduating, Mike attended Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture (Curtis) where he received his associate’s degree in agriculture. Mike worked on the family ranch with his father, Dale, until it was sold and then he worked among other surrounding ranches as a hired hand for anybody needing help.

Mike was united in marriage to Deidre E. Collins on September 5, 1981, and to this union, four children were born; Kimberly in 1983, Brent in 1985, Justin in 1988, and Taylor in 1991.

Mike was baptized and confirmed into Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church as a child and was a devoted member of the church throughout his life.

He began working as a courier for Pathology Services out of North Platte in the 1990s through 2006 and also during this time he provided many other courier services from his own personal business which he named Waltman Courier Services. Later, he worked at Progress Rail as a railman.  He met so many people where he was a friend to many and a stranger to none. Many of them remember him as a very kind and gentle soul.

Mike loved and cherished his entire family.

He is survived by his mother, June Waltman; children Kimberly (Zach Parmenter); Brent (Danielle) their children Ember, Paige, Landry, and Wacey; Justin (Stephanie) their children Zeke and Graham; and Taylor (Brittany) and many other beloved family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Dale Waltman; sister Peggy Waltman; and grandparents.
