Warriors Secure Home Playoff Game

Leyton’s Warrior Football team needed a win against Garden County on Thursday to secure a home game to open the Class D2 11 Man Football Playoffs, and a strong second half by the Warriors put away the visiting Garden County Eagles, and now have the Warriors hosting Hyannis on Thursday, October 21.

Leyton was able to get on top of Garden County 8-to-0 at the end of the first quarter, but the Eagles battled back to score tow touchdowns in the second quarter. Leyton also scored again in the second quarter and held a 16-to-14 lead going into the halftime. Leyton was able to extend their lead 24-to-14 at the end of the third period and put up 12 more points against a late score by Garden County to take the 36-to-22 victory. Senior Kole Bush was the workhorse for the offense, rushing 26 times for 183 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. Junior Justin Ernest sparked the defense with three interceptions on the night.

The Warriors enter the D2 playoffs as the #5 seed in the west bracket, and host the #12 seed Hyannis on Thursday at 6 p.m. The teams matched up previously in Dalton, and Leyton won the contest 27-to-6. Although Garden County lost their final game against Leyton, they still get to host a playoff game as the #6 seed. They will face #11 seed Blue Hill in Oshkosh on Thursday at 2 p.m.
