Lady Warriors Split Season Start

Leyton's Lady Warrior Basketball team started their season last week with a hard-fought battle against the visiting KImball Lady Longhorns for a loss, and a solid road win with four quarters of good play by the Lady Warriors.

On Friday Leyton kicked off the season hosting the Kimball Lady Longhorns, and this game was a tight contest the whole way through. Although Kimball was able to hang on to a narrow lead much of the contest, both teams battled for points and gave great effort, and it was only a few plays at the end of the contest that separated the two teams, Kimball emerging with the close 46-to-42 win.

Leyton then traveled Saturday to match up against the Morrill Lady Lions, and the Lady Warriors played a solid game throughout, with great offensive pressure in every period while doing a good job in limiting the Lady Lions shot opportunities. A big third quarter that had Leyton outscore Morrill 19-to-5 made the difference in the game and allowed the Lady Warriors to cruise to a 52-to-45 victory.Sophomore Claire Watchorn led the offense with 14 points while freshman Shawnee Gamble grabbed seven rebounds in the win. On Friday the Lady Warriors travel to Big Springs for a match up against South Platte.
