Leyton Sweeps Potter-Dix

Leyton' Warrior Basketball teams traveled to Potter Friday night, and both teams came away with victories as they head for the MAC Tournament this week.

The Lady Warriors had no trouble against the Potter-Dix squad, opening a big lead early and cruising to an easy 56-to-13 win that had freshman sensation Zaili Benish ring up 31 points on the home team. She hit five three point shots to put the game out of reach for Potter-Dix, and the Lady Warriors improved to 5-and-4 on the season.

The Leyton Boy's team had a battle on their hands, as they tried to avenge an earlier loss to Potter-Dix when a fourth quarter lead evaporated and the Coyotes stole a three-point win from the Warriors in Dalton in December.

The Warriors started out strong until the Coyotes fought back and narrowed their lead, and eventually passed the Leyton squad. Leyton trailed by five going into the half, but had a great third quarter, scoring 17 points while holding Potter-Dix to just nine.

Leyton entered the fourth quarter with a lead, but this time they stepped on the gas and kept up with the Coyote's fourth quarter surge. Even after losing the lead, the Warriors did not lose their composure, and continued to score and make critical free throw shots down the stretch, and came away with a three point 64-to-61 victory. Senior Scout Gamble buried five three pointers in the win, scoring 18 points to lead the Warriors.

Leyton starts the MAC Tournament this week, with the boys playing against Creek Valley on Monday in Dalton and girls playing Minatare in Dalton on Tuesday.
