Storm Collects First Win Of the Season

Lady Storm Take Down Banner

Creek Valley's Storm Boys Basketball team has struggled so far this year, going winless through the first five weeks of the season.

On Thursday they traveled to Paxton to match up with the Tigers, and the strong Paxton team quickly opened an insurmountable lead at the end of the first period, 30-to-8. Paxton put up another 28 points in the second period while the Storm managed just one point off of a free throw, and at the half the score was 58-to-9. Paxton cruised the rest of the way for the eventual 81-to-17 win.

Creek Valley regrouped and traveled to Harrisburg on Saturday to go up against the Banner County Wildcats, another winless team. This time it was Creek Valley that had the good start, but Banner fought back through the second quarter to go ahead 26-to-25 at the half. Creek Valley stormed out after the break, and had a huge third quarter, putting up 22 points against just nine from Banner County. The Wildcats never threatened again as Creek Valley cruised through the fourth quarter and picked up their first win, 62-to-39. Senior Drew Fraass dominated in the middle, scoring 24 points, while Creek Valley had two other scorers in double-digits, senior Kordell Lovitt with 18 points and senior Alex Caraveo with 10 points.

The Lady Storm also had success against Banner County, starting off strong and opening a 14-to-3 lead at the end of the first period. The good play continued through the half, and the Lady Storm opened a 31-to-8 lead at halftime. A big third quarter put the game away as Creek Valley scored 21 points in the third period then tacked on eight more points in the fourth to take a 60-to-10 victory, their second win of the season. Sophomore Anna Speirs lit up the scoreboard with 22 points in the victory.

The Creek Valley boys open the MAC Tournament against Leyton in Dalton on Monday, while the girls travel to Bayard on Tuesday for their first-round match up.
