Missoula Children's Theatre Production 'The Emperor's New Clothes' On Stage in Sidney Feb. 5

January 26, 2022

SIDNEY- Audiences of all ages will get a fresh look at an old favorite this Saturday,

February 5th, when the Missoula Children's Theatre (MCT) and more than 50 local students present an original musical adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen classic, The Emperor's New Clothes.

Although this updated rendition features a host of fun new characters and situations, it still teaches the same valuable lesson -don't let pride keep you from speaking up when your heart knows the truth.

MCT, the nation's largest touring children's theatre, has been "Helping Kids Reach a New Stage" for 49 years, working with 65,000 children in more than 1,200 communities in all 50 states and 17 countries each year. When one of 44 teams of Tour Actor/Directors arrives in the community, they bring a set, lights, costumes, makeup, and props, everything it takes to put on the play ... except the cast.

Nickela Rooney, a trained aerialist and theatre graduate of Northern Arizona University, and Christina Wilson, a theatre performance graduate of Georgia State University, are the MCT Tour Actor/Directors for next weekend's production. They will hold auditions from 3:45pm-5:45pm on Monday, January 31st at the Sidney High School. Among the roles to be cast are the Emperor; ManyPenny and the Money Council; the Royal Scholars Roxy and Red; Kings and Queens; Gem and the Royal Jewelers; Boot and the Royal Cobblers; Lid and the Royal Hatters; Stitch and the Royal Tailors; and the Royal Silkworms. Students, grades kindergarten through 12th grade, are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary. Assistant Directors will also be cast to aid in rehearsals throughout the week and to take on essential backstage responsibilities.

On Friday, two matinees for students will be presented, with one public performance Saturday evening. Also included in the MCT residency are three enrichment workshops for Sidney first graders. The Missoula Children's Theatre first brought their tour to Sidney in 1986.

The Emperor's New Clothes will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Sidney High School

Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $13 for adults, $7 for seniors, $5 for students(including WNCC), and children under 5 are free. Tickets will be available at the door. The Missoula Children's Theatre residency in Sidney is presented locally by the High Plains Arts Council with support from the Nebraska Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.
