Red Raiders Take First And Second At Ogallala

Sidney’s Red Raider Track and Field teams continued with their hot start to the season, traveling to Ogallala on Saturday to compete in the the annual Ed Moore Invitational at Ogallala High School. The boy’s team took top honors, compiling 144 points, far besting second place Chadron with 89 points. The girl’s team took second place with 72 points, behind first-place Chase County with 132 points.

The boys team had many medalists on the day, with sophomore Luke Holly placing first in the 100 Meters at 11.51, followed by senior Sawyer Dickman in second at 11.66. Sophomore Isak Doty won the 200 Meters at 23.14, and senior Mitch Deer won the 400 Meters at 50.68, followed by senior Treyson Johnstone in third place at 53.37. Senior Daniel Bashtovoi won the 800 Meters at 2:04.89, and senior Cam Brauer won the 1600 Meters at 4:40.11, followed in second place by Bashtovoi at 4:52.20.

The 4x100 Relay team (Dickman, Russell, Doty, Holly) won with a time of 44.76, the 4X400 Relay team (Canas, Deer, Russell, Johnstone) won with a time of 3:34.80, and the 4X800 Relay team (Bashtovoi, Brauer, Deer, Johnstone) won the 4X800 Relay with a time of 8:17.01. Sawyer Dickman won the High Jump clearing 6’ 3”, while senior Brayden Shaw took second in the Pole Vault, clearing 12’ 3”, and junior Cameron Leeling placed second in the Long Jump with a distance of 20’ 11.25.

For the girls, their strength in the jumping events was on display, with sophomore Karsyn Leeling winning the Long Jump with a distance of 17’ 4.5, followed by junior Gabrielle Fortner in second place with a distance of 16’ 10.25. Fortner won the Triple Jump with a distance of 33’ 10”. These were the only events Sidney won outright, but had many great showings in other events to score points. Sophomore Payton Schrotburger placed fourth in the 100 Meters and freshman Kayla Westby placed sixth. Fortner and Leeling placed third and fourth in the 200 Meters, while senior Lydia Peters placed third in the 800 Meters. Junior Rheo Dykstra placed fourth in the 3200 Meters followed by sophomore Jenju Peters who placed sixth, and the 4X100 Meter Relay team (Stanley, Fortner, DeNovellis, Leeling) placed second with a time of 52.91. Leeling placed second in the High Jump clearing 5’ 5”, and junior Rheagan Stanley placed fifth in the Pole Vault, clearing 8’ 3”.

Sidney next competed at the Creek Valley Tri-State Meet on Tuesday April 5 and the Mitchell Invitational on Thursday April 7.
