Sidney Boys Take B-6 Track and Field Title

Sidney's Red Raider Boys Track and Field team continued their outstanding season at the B-6 District Meet in Ogallala on Tuesday, May 10, and took first place by a wide margin, earning 124 points to second place Lexington's 92 points. Chadron earned 80 points to place third overall.

Again, Sidney dominated in many of the running events, with Sate Meet berths on the line. In the 100 Meters, Sidney sophomores Luke Holly and Isak Doty finished first and second and were followed by seniors Mitch Deer and Daniel Bashtovoi also finishing first and second in the 800 Meters. Sidney qualified all three of its Relay teams, with the 4X800 team of Deer, Cam Brauer, Treyson Johnston and Bashtovoi winning their event by a wide margin over the runner-up team.

Sidney swept the first three places of the High Jump, with senior Sawyer Dickman recording his personal best jump of 6'7”, followed by juniors Jacob Dowse and Cameron Leeling. Leeling also recorded his personal best jump, clearing 6'5”. Sidney qualifies 10 boys for the Sate Meet Class B Championships at Burke Stadium in Omaha on May 18-21.

Sidney's girls team also had some outstanding performances resulting in State Meet berths, including sophomore Karsyn Leeling winning the Long Jump and the High Jump, and sophomore Chloe Ahrens placing second in the 100 Meter Hurdles.

Sophomore Talissa Tanquary placed sixth in the 800 Meters, qualifying her for the State Meet.
