Sidney Library Staff Planning for Busy Summer

The Sidney Public Library's summer programs kick off this weekend with the “Oceans of Possibilities” Fun Day.

The Fun Day is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 4, at the library. The program is for children of all ages.

The Adult Summer Reading Program begins this week as well with sign-ups starting today, June 1. Adults are encouraged to enter the program and take their chances at drawings. Read a book, or listen to an audio book, and have your name entered in a contest for prizes. Prizes include a discount at Pit Smokehouse BBQ, a gift certificate to Highby Outdoors-Coffee Corner and a gift certificate to Charlotte & Emerson.

The Oceans of Possibilities Fun Day is followed by lunch at “Sea Splash Park” at noon on Tuesday, June 14. Children are encouraged to bring a lunch and listen to stories.

The next day, on June 15, the library will host the program “Sea Stars at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 2 and 3. The event will include a program-themed story with related fingerplays. “The Motion of the Ocean” is scheduled for 2 p.m. June 15 for children of all ages. Learn the ocean names and activity lessons on ocean zones, currents, tides and more. On Thursday, June 16, “Fin-tastic Fish” will take place at the library. Learn “fishy facts” and create your own fish.

On Tuesday, June 21, lunch at “Sea Splash Park” will return. It is a time for children of all ages to brink a sack lunch to the library at noon and enjoy stories. The next day, June 22, “Sea Stars” will again be the topic at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 2 and 3. Discover the facts about whales, dolphins and more.

On Wednesday, June 23, “Marine Reptiles' will be the theme at 10:30 a.m. for children of all ages. Learn about sea turtles, seat snakes and other creatures of the deep. There will also be a craft activity.

On June 24, the program will be at West Elementary School. “Keith West: Magician” will be the Oceans of Possibilities program. He will be on stage at 4 p.m.

On Tuesday, June 28, it is again lunch at “Sea Splash Park.” It is a time for children of all ages to brink a sack lunch to the library at noon and enjoy stories. “Sea Stars” is back on Wednesday, June 29 at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 2 and 3 with related fingerplays. “Marine Mammals” is scheduled for 2 p.m. for children of all ages to discover fun facts about seals, otters and sea lions.

The “Theatre West” Performance Group is scheduled to perform outside of the library, weather permitting, at 10:30 a.m. June 30. The program “Beach Bum” is scheduled for all ages at 2 p.m. Crafts such as sand art, handprint t-shirts and a beach snack are being considered. Participants are encouraged to dress as you think a beach bum would dress.
