Sidney Red Raider golfer John Beier qualified for the NSAA Class B State Championships held in Scottsbluff last week. He qualified individually on the strength of his performance at the B-4 District Tournament in McCook, where he led the field with a round of 80. Beier has shown consistent improvement, and was able to put together his outstanding round when it really mattered, and was the only State Qualifier for the Red Raiders.
Last Tuesday and Wednesday Beier competed at the Class B State Tournament at Scottsbluff Country Club against the very best golfers in Class B.
On his first round on Tuesday, Beier had a decent front nine with a 43, and improved on the back nine, scoring two birdies to end the round with a score of 84 on a challenging course. Unfortunately he did not have the same success on the second day's round. On Wednesday, he struggled over the first nine holes, victimized by three double bogies. He was able to improve on the back nine, but it wasn't enough to break through into the top twenty, and he ended the round on the second day with a 92. His scores earned him a tie for 44th place, still a very good showing for the Sidney junior.
Look for Beier to improve his game and return for another shot at a State Title next season.
