Seniors Punchless At Ogallala

Sidney’s American Legion Post 17 Senior baseball team traveled to Ogallala last Tuesday to take on the Post 135 Adams Bank and Trust team, and went hitless in a 10-to-2 loss.

Sidney scored on a wild pitch and a walk forcing in a run from third base in the second inning, but that was all the offense the Post 17 boys could muster in the contest.

In the first inning, Ogallala starter Ian Shaw started the game by striking out the first four batters he faced until he ran into control problems in the second inning, walking three batters in a row then uncorking a wild pitch that scored Landon Riddle from first base.

Ty Stettner was then hit by a pitch to load the bases again. Rhyder Bane then showed a good a and patience at the plate, drawing a walk to plate the runner from third and earn an RBI.

With a 2-to-0 lead, Sidney starter Micah Schneider gave up a run in the second inning to cut the score to 2-to-1, but it was in the third inning when the Ogallala boys were able to get a measure on Schneider’s pitches, connecting on a pair of singles and a pair of doubles and plated five runs to jump out to a 6-to-2 lead. Ogallala added a run in the fourth inning, then three more runs capped by Corbin Murphy’s two-run home run blast in the bottom of the fifth to end the scoring for the home team. Ogallala pitcher Aydan Halligan, pitching in relief of Shaw, bore down on the Sidney offense, striking out seven and giving up two walks over the last three innings to put away the Post 17 boys and earn a 10-to-2 victory.

Halligan earned the win for Ogallala, pitching 3.2 innings, giving up no hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.

Schneider took the loss for Sidney, striking out seven and walking two while giving up seven runs.
