Virginia Ruth Bules

The sun set on the life of Virginia Ruth Bules, 81, formerly of Delta, CO, on May 27, 2022, when the Lord called her home to eternal rest and glory.

Virginia was born August 4, 1940, in Sterling, CO to Albert and Dorothy Roper. She grew up with her parents and sisters on the family farm outside Peetz, Colorado where she was the sixth of ten children. She lived on the farm until her senior year of high school when the family moved to Sidney, NE for her to complete advanced classes required for nurses’ training. She graduated from Beth-El School of Nursing in Colorado Springs in 1961. She later received a Bachelor’s in Nursing from the University of Phoenix in 1992.

On November 27, 1961, she married the love of her life, Wayne Bules, at Weyerts Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lodgepole, NE. They were married for 53 years. They lived multiple places, including Gurley, NE; Thornton, CO; Johnstown, CO; and Delta, CO.

Early in her nursing career, Virginia worked in hospitals, then she spent many years as the School Nurse for the RE-5J school district in Johnstown/Milliken, Colorado, and then ended her work career at the Weld County Health Department. She loved working with families and especially children and seeing that they received good health care.

Her love and dedication to kids propelled her to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for Delta County, Colorado where she had the opportunity to work with several families and particularly one family over many years, which culminated in years long relationships.

Virginia loved to travel, garden, read and walk. She enjoyed sewing and was always willing to doing mending for us. Being a good neighbor was very important to her and passed that value onto her children. Her family and faith were paramount influences throughout her life and even as her health declined she continued to ask about family and friends and profess her love of Jesus to those around her.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Lori Bules of Denver, CO; daughter, Tara Gartrell (Rod) of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Lee Bules (Tonnie) of Delta, CO; grandchildren, Joshua Gartrell (David) of Denver, CO; Allison Gartrell of Idaho Falls, ID; Joseph Bules of Boulder, CO; and Sarah Bules of Portland, OR; sisters, Carol Moonshower of Roswell, GA; Linda Roper of Woodway, TX; Kay Beard (Jim) of Lorena, TX; Dee Routsong of Colorado Springs, CO; Nancy Anderson of Woodway, TX and Peggy Burt of Phoenix, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Bules; parents, Albert and Dorothy Roper; brother, Bobby Roper; and sisters, Barbara Applegate and Rosemary Cameron.

Graveside Internment service will be held at 9 am on August 5, 2022, at Mesa View Cemetery located at 682 1725 Rd, Delta, Colorado. A community gathering will be from 10-11 am in the Fellowship Hall at the Delta Presbyterian Church located at 135 4th Street.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on August 6, 2022, at the Summit Event Center, 411 Sable Blvd, Aurora, Colorado.
