Serving proudly since 1873 as the beautiful Nebraska Panhandle's first newspaper
Richard Lee Barngrover, Sr. sent his last “10-4, over and out” on June 26th, 2022, signing off on a life of mischief, hard-work, dad jokes, and a closet full of flannel, Wranglers, and cowboy boots. Born third in a line of seven children on April 12th, 1950 in Eugene, OR, to the late “collector of all things” father, Alfred, and saint of a woman, Julia, who raised 4 daughters and 3 rowdy boys.
Of his brothers and sisters, he is preceded in death by his sisters Ruth and Sue. He leaves behind: Roger Barngrover of Sidney, NE, Anthony Barngrover (Juanita) of Renton, WA, Sylvia Barngrover of Lodgepole, NE and Linda Madison (Mike) of Lexington, NE.
Richard was a life-long professional truck driver who took pride in a job well-done making deliveries throughout the continental 48 states. In the later part of his career, he was an owner-operator for Werner Enterprises and member of OOIDA until his retirement. Richard enjoyed collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia, cooking, spending time with family and friends, and teaching his grandchildren quality pranks.
Richard was preceded in death by his former spouse and partner, Carol Barngrover. He leaves behind their five children: Randy Klinesmith of Missouri, Richard Lee Barngrover, Jr (Michelle) of Indiana, Pamela Barngrover of Missouri, Amanda Leek-Barngrover of Colorado, and Ashley Johnson (Chris) of Missouri.
Richard was a beloved “Poppie” to many grandchildren.
To honor Richard’s memory, we are holding a Celebration of Life on July 9th, 2022 at 3pm at Lodgepole Community Hall in Lodgepole, NE. We invite anyone who knew him to attend and honor his life.
