Sidney's Cross Country teams traveled to Scottsbluff on Thursday to open their season at the Panhandle Classic. The boy's team finished second with 49 points and the girl's team finished third with 55 points.

Outstanding performances for the boys included sophomore Noah Canas' fifth place showing at 19:32.10 and sophomore Jashawn Davenport's ninth place finish at 19:42.59. Sidney placed three runners in the top twenty for their second place finish.

For the girls, junior Talissa Tanquary again dominated the competition, coming in first place by nearly a half minute at 21:21.57, beating out Leyton's Axi Benish who came in second at 21:50.29. Sidney had two finishers in the top 20, good enough for third place overall.

Head Coach Donna Wiedeburg commented, “The other schools thought we would be done, with a lot of our top runners graduating last season. But we don't re-build, we just re-load, and we have a lot of talented runners eager to take their place and get their shot at medals. I'm very pleased at how the kids ran today and look forward to big success for both the girls and boys teams.”

The Cross Country team travels to Gering on Friday for the Gering Invite at 5 Rocks Ampitheater.
