Warriors Put Away Lions Early, 72-6

Leyton's Warrior Football team traveled to Morrill on Friday to match up against the struggling Morrill Tigers, and made quick work of their hosts, scoring 49 unanswered points in the first quarter to put away the Tigers.

It was a ground-and-pound attack by the Warriors, who threw the ball only three times with one completion in the game. The lone completion was for a touchdown, a 12 yard pass from senior Damyn Russ to senior Justin Ernest. The Warriors rushed the ball 24 times for 192 yards and scored 6 touchdowns on the ground. Morrill's only score of the day came in the fourth quarter, well after the game had been decided and substitutes were shuttling in and out of the lineup.

Senior Dawson Juelfs had 7 rushes for 29 yards and 2 touchdowns, while seniors Chance Carter, Justin Ernest, Damyn Russ and freshman Alec Watchorn each had a rushing touchdown in the victory.

Senior Levi Weyerts led the defense with 11 tackles, and the defense tallied five interceptions, with Ernest pulling down two. Chance Carter also had a fumble recovery in the win that had seven different Warriors score points.

Leyton next prepares for a Homecoming match up against the 1-and-2 Anselmo-Merna Coyotes on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Dalton.
