Lady Raiders Roll Through Challenging Week

Sidney’s Lady Raider Volleyball team had a very challenging week, with matches against Chase County, Mitchell and Gering during the week and tournament action on Saturday.

The Lady Raiders came away with five wins in six tries, and moved their season record to 14-and-3.

On Tuesday Sept. 20, the Lady Raiders hosted Chase County, and Sidney’s skilled hitters were able to get around the Lady Longhorns tall blockers to take a 3-to-1 match victory. It was a great win with an energized crowd, and fueled the Sidney squad for their next challenge on Thursday, a triangular with Mitchell and Gering.

On Thursday, the Lady Raiders started off against Mitchell, and after putting down the Lady Tigers 25-to-18 in the first set, Sidney turned the pressure up and put away Mitchell 25-to-14 in the second set for the 2-to-0 match victory.

Next up, Sidney had no trouble putting away a struggling Gering squad in straight sets, 25-to-16 and 25-to-14 for the 2-to-0 match win.

Next, the Lady Raiders traveled to Aurora on Saturday for tournament action, and started their day against Crete. Two hard-fought sets had Sidney come out on top, 25-to-19 and 25-to-23 for the 2-to-0 match victory. Sidney’s only stumble of the week came next against a very strong Lakeview Lady Vikings team, and Sidney dropped both sets 25-to-16 and 25-to-19 in the loss. Sidney finished the tournament with a two set victory against Aurora, 25-to-17 and 25-to-20. Although there was a loss in the week, it was overall a very successful stretch for a Lady Raider team that is playing with confidence and synchronicity. During Saturday’s tournament, junior Karsyn Leeling led the offense with 27 kills and senior Reese Riddle had 58 assists.

Sidney was scheduled to host Scottsbluff on Tuesday for Senior Night, and then travel to Scottsbluff over the weekend for tournament action.
