Sidney senior Gabrielle Fortner receives offers of appointment for US Air Force Academy and US Naval Academy

Students who desire to serve their country as officers in the United States military have the opportunity to apply to the U.S. Military Academy, the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy, the Coast Guard Academy, or the U.S.. Merchant Marine Academy. All Applicants must provide excellent grades, solid test scores, and with the exception of the US Coast Guard, a nomination from their states Senator or Representative.

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the names of the Nebraskans she is nominating this year for U.S. service academies."Today, I'm proud to announce my nominees for our nation's military service academies. Each of these talented young individuals have proven themselves to be exceptional students in the classroom and dedicated leaders in their communities. I know that they will represent Nebraska and our country with honor," said Senator Fischer. Of her 18 nominations, one of them hails from Cheyenne County.

Senior Gabrielle Fortner of Sidney High School has received not just one, but two offers of appointment to the United States Air Force Academy and the United States Naval Academy. She has chosen to accept the offer to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
