A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 19 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Peetz with The Very Reverend Michael Bodzioch officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Peetz.
Faye was born June 24, 1930, in Pleasanton, Nebraska to Bernard and Louise (Peters) Roelle. She moved with her family to the Peetz area in 1935. She attended school in Lorenzo, Neb. until 1946, when she and her parents moved to a farm southeast of Peetz. She graduated from Peetz High School in 1948.
Faye worked part time at the Peetz Post Office where she dispatched the daily mail for the midnight train. It was at the post office where Frank Fehringer asked her out on their first date. On Sept. 18, 1951, Faye and Frank were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Peetz. The young couple lived in the basement of the Co-op house in Peetz for the first year of their marriage. In 1952, Bernard and Louise moved from the family farm to Peetz, and Faye and Frank moved to the Fehringer farm. They lived there until they retired in 2015 and moved to Sterling, Colo.
The couple worked hard on their dryland wheat farm, raising cattle, hogs, and chickens, and selling eggs and cream to supplement their income and support their growing family. They were both productive members of the Peetz Community.
Faye was active at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, serving as catechist, lector, Eucharist minister, and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She held several offices for the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 134 during her 68 years as a member. Faye also served as the financial officer for the local newspaper, The Peetz Bridge, for 25 years.
Faye loved to play cards. (The family often joked that card playing was a requirement to be married to Frank!) In Peetz, they were members of pitch and bridge card clubs, and in Sterling you'd often find Faye at the Heritage Center for frequent card games. Faye and Frank found time for bowling in leagues in Sidney and Sterling and competed in many local and state tournaments.
Faye embraced the technological revolution when, at the bright age of 64, she purchased her first computer. She soon learned to record her daily diary, manage the farm finances, catalog treasured family photos, and kept up with family happenings on social media. In her 80's, she went back to school to complete an Excel spreadsheet class at NJC.
What gave Faye greatest joy was family and holiday gatherings and sharing time and activities with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Frank; her parents, Bernard and Louise Roelle, her stepmother, Kathryn Haggard Roelle; her brother Francis; and her sister-in-law Coletta Roelle.
Faye is survived by her five children: Evelyn (Mike) of Peetz, Douglas (Tammy) of Peetz, Marilyn Crane (Bob) of Sterling, Lloyd (Carol) of Littleton, and Susan Brandt (Matt) of Fort Collins; 18 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Peetz, 621 Logan Street, Peetz, CO 80747.
