Sidney Regional Medical Center Breaks Ground on Extended Care Facility

On Thursday, May 18, Sidney Regional Medical Center held its long-awaited groundbreaking ceremony for its new Extended Care facility at the site of the Medical Center.

The facility is funded through a combination of contributions to the hospital, construction financing from lenders and low-interest loans from the USDA's Rural Development initiative.

Farris Engineering, RDG Planning and Design and Sampson Construction are the lead construction organizations on the project.

SRMC CEO Jason Petik kicked off the ceremony with opening remarks, stressing the importance of high-quality extended care services to rural communities by saying, "Long term care is essential for any rural community. We want to make sure and keep our loved ones as close to home as possible, and provide access to any and all of those services that we can."

The new unit will have all of the latest technologies for care and comfort and will include a memory care wing. With meeting rooms and a family-friendly design, the Extended Care unit will enable its patients to access SRMC services conveniently, with services being just walking distance away, rather than a drive that is now necessary.

Current Extended Care residents will be moved into the new facility, which is designed to accommodate additional construction and expansion in the future. Residents in the Extended Care Unit were consulted and offered input for the new facility.

The new facility will have private rooms, modern convenience and safety features and will be a big improvement over the outdated facilities currently housing the Extended Care Unit.
