Former SHS graduate Alexa Fort of Sidney earned the prestigious 2023 Eric Sevareid Award for exceptional journalism.
Fort also was named first-place winner in Student Market Television in the Talk/Public Affairs category as part of the UNL election night team for her "Election 2022 Update".
The Eric Sevareid Awards are named for the North Dakota-born and University of Minnesota-educated journalist best known for his work as a correspondent for CBS Radio and Television. Each year, the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association presents awards to the best work done by broadcast news operations and journalists working in small, medium and large markets in their six-state region on radio, television and online. The distinguished panel of judges is made up of journalists and educators who live outside of Minnesota, Wisconsin, the Dakotas, Iowa and Nebraska to help ensure impartiality.
Fort, a 2020 Sidney Graduate, is currently an Emerging Media Arts major with a minor in Broadcast Journalism and is also a member of the the Cornhusker Marching Band, Big Red Express Pep Band & UNL Campus Band.
She is the daughter of Brian & Donna Fort of Sidney and the granddaughter of John and ViAnn Fort in Chisago City, MN
