Tanquary Leads Sidney Girls To Second-Place Finish

Boys Team Earn Fifth Place Finish

COZAD--Sidney's Red Raider Cross Country teams continued their strong start to the season, with the girls' team taking second place at the Cozad Invitational on Saturday, while the boys' squad finished fifth. The girls had three finishers in the top fifteen and, with a second place individual finish by senior Talissa Tanquary, the girls compiled enough points for a second place result.

Head Coach Donna Wiedeburg said, "It was refreshing to run in the morning in Cozad. We knew going into the meet that we would face some tough competition. 6 of our 12 C-5 District teams competed at this meet. We saw a lot of great things happen during the meet from all of our athletes. We can see the week of training making a difference as we compete in meets during the weekends. The girls placed 2nd as a team and really showed some great teamwork during the race. There were 15 PR's set at the Cozad Invite. We had 14 athletes medal.  Raider parents travel well and it's incredible to watch and hear the support all over a cross country course for our athletes."

Tanquary finished in second with a time of 20:14. Freshman Kylee Kampfe finished seventh with a time of 22:19 and freshman Emily Bashtovoi finished in 14th with a time of 23:55. Looks like Sidney has another Bashtovoi that is excelling in Cross Country.

For the boys, junior Noah Canas led the Sidney runners with a 12th place finish with a time of 18:57. Senior Brendan Shepard placed 18th with a time of 19:26 and freshman Parker Dickman placed 30th with a time of 20:28. On Friday the Cross Country teams are scheduled to compete at the Chadron State HS and MS Cross Country Invitational.
