Mary "Kathie" Schinzel

Mary Kathleen "Kathie" Schinzel, age 93, previously of Sidney, NE made her final peaceful journey to be with her Lord on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Linden Court Nursing Home in North Platte, NE. The Rosary Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 7, 2023 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. Both services will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sidney, NE with Father C.P. Varghese officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney. Services will be livestreamed on the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel Facebook page and recorded for later viewing on our website. Memorials may be made to Nebraska Children's Home Society.

Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Wednesday from 1-6:00 P.M. to leave condolences for the family.

Kathie was born in Iowa Falls, IA to David A. Crowley and Lenora (Mueller) Crowley. The family relocated several times residing in Cedar Rapids, IA and South Dakota before settling in Sidney. She attended and graduated from school in Sidney.

She married Pete Sewald and from that union came children Yvonne Sewald Tomaino, Alan Sewald and Jim Sewald. Her children became her vocation following their divorce.

As a single parent, she was intent on seeing that they succeeded. Her children never felt they went without. Sometime after their divorce, she married Jack E. Fry, whose life was cut short by a heart attack nine years later. After many years alone, she married Edward Schinzel.

She was proud of her career with Pfizer working as a secretary and later lab technician as well as Quality Control Manager.

Kathie served St. Patrick's Church in many capacities. She was a member of the Alter Society, a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. She also served bazaars and funeral dinners. Kathie would open her home to the priests for special occasions, or just a meal, drink and conversation.

Kathie is survived by children Yvonne Sewald Tomaino and husband Steve of Lemoyne, NE, Alan Sewald and wife Sharon and Jim Sewald and wife Linda of North Platte, NE, step children Robert Fry and wife Charlotte and Susan Fry Fast and husband Dean, grandchildren Stephanie Tomaino Robinson and husband Patrick, Ryan Tomaino, Tyler Sewald and fiance´ Heather, Trevor Sewald, Whitney Sewald Spencer, Jason Wenzel and wife Kay, Stefanie Rawles and husband James, nine great grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews.

Kathie was preceded in death by her parents David A. Crowley and Lenora (Mueller) Crowley, her husbands Pete Sewald, Jack E. Fry, Edward Schinzel and infant daughter Lenora Sewald, brothers James Crowley and Joseph Crowley and daughter in law Leanne Schwartz Sewald.
