Lady Raider XC Beats Heat for Chadron State Win

Canas Leads Boys To Third-Place Finish

Another first-place result for Talissa Tanquary as she won the Chadron State Invite by over ten seconds.

CHADRON--The Lady Raider Cross Country team continued their success in the 2023 season with a win at the Chadron State Invitational on Friday, September 8. The boy's team also did well, earning a third place finish.

Senior Talissa Tanquary again paced the girls' squad with a first-place finish with a time of 21:37.21. Freshman sensation Kylee Kampfe placed fifth with a time of 23:49.73, another top-ten finish for the newcomer. Freshman Emily Bashtovoi finished twelfth with a time of 25:01.63 and freshman Melody Sanchez rounded out the top twenty, finishing twentieth with a time of 26:42.89. The girls ended with a score of 33, edging out second place Gering and third place Chadron, each with scores of 35.

For the boys, junior Noah Canas again led the way with a tenth place finish with a time of 19:51.62. Senior Brendan Shepard placed fifteenth with a time of 20:38.96 for Sidney's other top-twenty finisher. Sidney ended with a score of 67, behind first place Gering with 14 and second place Alliance with 25.

Head Coach Donna Wiedeburg said, "Once again we ran in hot conditions with no clouds as even the slightest relief from the sun and the kids rose to the occasion.  We have been working hard on hills and it showed in the grit and determination these kids raced with."

Sidney next travels on Thursday to compete in the McCook Invitational.
