Roger L. Franzen

Roger L. Franzen, age 89, of Sidney, passed away peacefully at Sidney Regionals Medical Center Extended Care in Sidney, NE on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Weyerts Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lodgepole, NE with Pastor "Leon "Bud" Gillespie officiating. Burial will follow at Weyerts Cemetery in Lodgepole. Services will be livestreamed on the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel Facebook page and recorded for later viewing on our website.

Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Tuesday from 1-6:00 P.M. to leave condolences for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to Weyerts Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lodgepole, NE.

Roger Franzen, son of Reinhart and Rosina (Stevens) Franzen was born on June 13, 1934 on the farm southeast of Gurley, NE. He attended school at District 17 and he graduated from high school in Lodgepole, NE with the class of 1952.

After high school, he farmed with his dad. Roger married Hanna Carstens on November 30, 1958 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sidney

Farming was Roger's life. He was on the Cheyenne County FSA Committee and won the South Platte NRD Conservation Award. He served on the District 17 school board for many years until the country schools consolidated with the town schools. Roger enjoyed playing dartball with the men at church and he loved to polka dance. Roger and Hanna moved to Sidney in 1995, but he still farmed as long as he was able. Roger was a life-long member of Weyerts Immanuel Lutheran Church and visited the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

He is survived his wife, Hanna, daughter, Keo Franzen, and son Robert Franzen and wife Janet, grandchildren Tristan, Rien and Mikaela, and numerous nieces and nephews are left behind to mourn his passing.

He is preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Rodney, brother Raymond Franzen and his wife, Carol, his sister Roberta Sick and husband Ronald and granddaughter Rebecca.
