John J. Spaeth

John J. Spaeth, age 89, of Peetz, CO passed away at his home in Peetz, CO on Sunday, December 10, 2023. A Rosary Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, December 15, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Peetz, CO with Father Michael Bodzioch officiating. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Peetz, CO. Services will be livestreamed on the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel Facebook page and recorded for later viewing on our website.

Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Thursday from 1-6:00 P.M. to leave condolences for the family.

John was born to Stanley and Catherine (Zeiler) Spaeth on May 25, 1934 in Sterling, CO.  He had three brothers, Stanley, Earl, and Robert.  

He married Elaine Clark on November 21, 1954 at Saint John's Catholic Church in Stoneham, CO.  They were married for 69 years.

They made their home in Sidney, NE and had a very fruitful marriage, with nine children, John Walter and wife Rena from Houston, TX;  Patricia McDonald from Sacramento, CA;  Barbara Gray from San Diego, CA;  Shelly Happold from Longpine, NE;  Elizabeth and husband Chris Van Anne from Ft. Collins, CO;  Steve and Joe Spaeth from Peetz, CO;  Julie Bellendir from Sidney, NE;  and Katherine Rain from Pensacola, FL.   

John worked for several natural gas companies in Sidney retiring in 1995 from K-N Energy after 40 years of service.  He knew exactly what house you were talking about if you mentioned an address.   He also worked for Cabela's Retail Store for 8 years (1996-2004) and could help you find the best deal on shoes.   

John and Elaine moved to Peetz, CO in 1996 where they built a new home and joined the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  

He had 24 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his brothers Stan, Earl and grandson Jacob Happoldson.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to the Down Syndrome Alliance of the Midlands.  There is a great granddaughter in the family that has downs so this is something near and dear to our hearts.
